Don't Tile Over This!

One of the great things about flooring is that you can sometimes install a new floor right on top of the old one. For example, if you have an old hardwood floor, you can often have carpet put down on top of it. You may even be able to have stone or ceramic tile laid down on top of the hardwood, too. This saves you the hassle of having to remove the original floor first. Keep in mind, this is just one of many clever tricks that flooring contractors know. You'll probably discover more of them on this blog, where it's our goal to share information about flooring.

4 Benefits Of EVP Flooring

The world of flooring is changing quickly. No longer are people only using natural materials like wood and stone for their floors. These days, engineered flooring is becoming more common. One of the most common types of engineered flooring is engineered vinyl planks, or EVP. This is plank-style flooring that is made to look like real wood planks. So, what are its benefits? Take a look.

It does not need time to acclimate.

When you have hardwood flooring put into a home, it needs time to adjust to the temperature and humidity in the home. Usually, the flooring installers will drop it off and just let it sit in your home for a week or two prior to installation. This can be an annoyance because you have to wait longer for your floor to be installed and because you may find yourself tripping over the flooring. With EVP, there is no need for an acclimation period. The flooring is designed to resist changes in shape and length as humidity changes, so it does not need this time to adapt.

It is water-resistant.

Some types of EVP are fully waterproof, but even those that are not will at least be water-resistant. If you spill on the floor, the water will bead up on its surface. You won't have to worry about stains or damage. This makes EVP a good option for dining rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms — all rooms where you might hesitate to install actual hardwood floors because of moisture concerns.

It comes with padded backing.

The back layer of EVP — the layer that rests directly on the subfloor — is padded. This gives the floor a softer, more giving feel underfoot, which makes it feel nice to walk on. It also means you don't need to install a separate backing under the floor, as you do with some types of flooring. EVP is a true, multi-layer flooring system.

It's easy to repair and replace.

If a piece of your EVP does become damaged, you can simply remove and replace that piece. There is no need to disturb the rest of the floor. Most homeowners can make these simple repairs themselves rather than having to call their installer.

If you're looking for an alternative to hardwood floors, EVP may be a good choice. This engineered flooring is truly at the top of its game, and it has a lot of benefits
